F*ck consensus

We don’t believe in consensus truth at Temple. We want a unity of values, and diversity of everything else.

Challenge ideas, not people

As you do so, err on the side of honesty, and keep your defense mechanisms out of the process, we don't need to hear from them.

Hurry Slowly

Hastiness is speed beyond one's capacity, while speed is a byproduct of careful planning. We want to be fast and directionally correct, not hasty and completely off the mark.

Style is Substance

Any work that rises to the standard of Greatness is imbued with a special spirit, or signature. Our work should exceed that standard.

Data is a false God

Don’t be a slave to data. Use it as information, but not insight: data is only as good as the question you ask.

Impact > Process

Process happens when culture fails. Maximize impact by seeking leverage, not efficiency. Manage process, erasing it as much as possible.

Play God’s Advocate

Entropy tells us that dysfunction is the rule, not the exception. It’s always easy to kill an idea with pessimism. Instead, we consider: what if it works? What does that world look like? How do we build it?

Respect the Chain of Inspiration

Those who originate ideas will be empowered to see them through, regardless of seniority, and will be supported by the rest of the company to do so.

Courage is rarer than Genius

Make mistakes of ambition, not sloth or fear.

Cultivate a taste for what’s Best

Good taste is indistinguishable from good judgment. Nurture yours, then help others do the same. Beauty is gravity**.** We must resurrect Beauty.
